John’s Steady start to 2005 SCSA campaign

Rockingham 1st May 2005. John Steward made a steady start to the 2005 SCSA Stock Car season, coming away with two top 5 finishes.

Rain during the weekend meant the cancellation of qualifying so race 1 was started in 2004 championship positions giving John the outside front row spot. The race started well and John settled into 2nd spot before a caution flew for a crash on lap 1. The restart didnt go as well and John slipped down the order. He picked the pace up towards the end of the race and that, coupled with sterling work in the pits saw the Steward Transport Ford come home in 5th place. The race was won by 2004 champion Stevie Hodgson.

Race 2 took a different path and John ran in the top 5 for the whole race and was rapidly catching Colin White for 4th before White was forced to pit for a misfire. John took over 4th spot and was never pressured again. The race was won by 2001 champion John Mickel.

Work will now start on getting some more speed from the Steward Transport Ford Taurus in preparation for the next rounds at Rockingham on 5th June.

John Steward finishes 2nd in 2004 points

A superb improvement and hard work throughout the year paid off as John Steward finished the 2004 SCSA series in 2nd place in the standings

The year started well with two 4th place finishes in rounds 1 and 2, this was followed up with two 7th place finishes in rounds 3 and 4 leaving John 3rd in points. The team had hoped to have a new car for the start of the year but this was delayed in its journey from the US so rounds 5 an 6 saw its debut, and what a debut it was! the car ran strongly all weekend before ending round 5 in 5th place before coming from 4th to 1st in one move off of turn four to lead round 6 and go onto record his and the teams first ever SCSA win and move up to 2nd in the standings.

A mid-season slump started with round 7, the car lost handling and John slid down the order to finish 10th from his 3rd place starting position. Round 8 saw johns first crash of the year and a 13th place finish. Rounds 9 and 10 continued on this vein with John crashing in round 9 ending up 13th again. The team repaired the car well enough for round 10 where he finished 13th again.

The last meeting of the year saw John start the day still 2nd in points but the pack was closing fast but John and the team did all they needed to do. A 6th place finish in round 11 was followed by an 11th place run in the final round, good enough to secure 2nd spot in the championship.
